This morning at breakfast I explained to McKayla that she needed to pick up Keith and my plates and take them to the sink. I very politely told her that in a parenting book I was reading it said in order for children to show their parents respect children should clear not only the child's plate, but the parent's plates as well. I was very diplomatic in my explanation that this not only teaches respect but also is a more fair division of labor in the home as typically the parents have done the work to prepare the meal.
McKayla looked at me and said "Mom, I don't think you need to read that story anymore."
