Keith and I have been involved in discussions about the merits of an artificial tree versus a real tree for years now. We have always resisted the convenient urge to purchase the artificial tree feeling there were parts of the "real" tree experience we were not willing to miss out on. For example, the hunt (taking the kids out to pick one out) and of course the smell. I have to be honest what kept us from purchasing an artificial tree sooner was missing the smell of a real tree.
Well this year we jumped the hurdle and bought an artificial tree. After a pretty heinous time of putting it up, it was just me as Keith was out of town and the tree is nine feet tall, and then an even longer time of "fluffing" the tree so it looked right, I was finally happy with the end result. Although I have missed the smell of a real tree I have not missed watering or the mess of a real tree. I hear Bath and Body works has a great plug in air freshener with an evergreen scent. I will have to look into that and then I will have the whole package.
This is not a great picture but gives the general impression, without lights or ornaments.

Don't forget the cost benefit, the fact that you are helping the environment, and remember... you can always buy a Christmas tree scented candle! When we start putting up a tree, we're going fake all the way!
