Trite Facebook postings

Every once and a while I come across a posting on Facebook that just strikes me as outrageous considering who is posting it!  My example for today is one I came across, actually yesterday.  This is the quote "If you can't make sacrifices for your kids- you don't deserve them.  A true parent would give their life and their very last breath!"

It is not that I disagree with this but there is so much more that good parents have to do.  It is easy to give your life for your child, you don't have to think twice about that but the really tough stuff is the everyday mundane stuff that makes you want to go crazy.  For example, some days I would rather make some grand gesture (like die) than spend ANOTHER evening fighting with my daughter over her homework.  But, a good parent does not give up.  They put their own agendas and wants and desires on hold to the benefit of their child, even when they feel like it is sucking the life out of them!

I have been attentive lately to a deeper understanding that my life is full of first world problems.  Most of the things I spend a considerable amount of time fretting over do not come into the frame of consciousness for people in third world countries.  I am trying to make it a point to not allow myself very much time on the first world problems and to focus my fretting times on bigger issues.

That being said, what people post on Facebook that bugs me is definitely a first world problem!
