Bryan Post Training

I was able to attend a training provided by Bryan Post who is a writer from the Post Institute.  I have read one of his books called The Great Behavior Breakdown..  One of his main premises is that all human behavior comes from either love or fear.  Good behavior comes from love while bad behavior comes from fear.  He was a very dynamic speaker and presenter and did not shy away from any questions that were asked by staff or foster parents.  He does not advocate for consequences of any kind for bad behavior but rather to understand that the behavior comes from fear.  When thinking about a child who is fearful rather than defiant the approach changes and is more gentle.  I have used some of his techniques with McKayla and it is surprising how well they work.  They do require an enormous amount of effort on the part of the parent.  This is great stuff for working with traumatized children and I wish we had more access to the schools as this would be helpful for them as well attempting to educate children who are traumatized and placed in foster care.

I also had a lovely evening with some good friends having dinner at the Yard House. We giggled and giggled.  I haven't laughed that much or hard in a very long time.
