Leaking and Laughing

Kim and I have been spending our mornings leaking tears (outside Jim's room) and finding things to laugh about. Jim had a really great day yesterday.  He was up all day and was enjoying the company of all the family and friends who came to visit.  He was his funny quirky self.  Today he has been sleepy all day and spent most of the day resting.

We met with Dr. Dittrich today who has been Jim's nephrologist when he first starting having difficulties with his kidneys five years ago.  She was not working much, if at all, the last couple of years as her son was diagnosed with a brain tumor and she was taking care of him.  It was like divine intervention when Dr. Kellar told us two days ago she was going to be taking four days of his on call this weekend.  It gave Kim and I goosebumps as Jim has always loved and respected Dr. Dittrich.  She sat with us for some time this morning explaining that dialysis was not the appropriate treatment for Jim at this time.  She was also able to spend some time with Jim explaining this to him.  We all felt so relieved to have her with us and she cried a bit and stated she also had goosebumps and was so happy to be able to be there for us and Jim at this time.

We have had the opportunity to reconnect with family who we don't see very often and that is a big blessing.  Keith is working hard at getting Jim's '57 Chevy up and running so he can take a ride when he feels up to it. We will have to plan a hospital break for that one!  Jim will LOVE that!
