This was from a while ago but it was pretty funny and bears mentioning:
I had read in my Trauma Stewardship book that singing is a good way to tap into the other part of your brain and provide healing from trauma. So, McKayla and I were singing O My Darling this morning on the way to school and I suggested we should sing to school every day as another way to take good care of ourselves. McKayla did not like the idea and I ignored her opinion and said "What song should we sing?" She was quiet for a minute and then started singing Brittney Spears, You Drive me Crazy! It was hilarious.
A couple of minutes later she started to explain to me why she doesn't have to go to church anymore. She said that her teacher said that in this country going to church is each person's choice so she could choose to go or not to go. We had a lovely conversation about the tenants that this country was founded on and I assured her that although she was correct that the government was not allowed to make its citizens go to church or a certain church, I, as her mother, could certainly make her go to church. But, I told her, she could have the next two weeks off from church. She was delighted by that until she realized that we were camping and would not be going to church anyway.
