Six years ago today I was woken up at about 2:30 in the morning. I got up to go to the bathroom and my water broke. I woke Keith up and jumped in the shower, very excited that I would see my little McKayla soon. Keith and I drove to the hospital in Boise, about a half hour drive and I was not having any contractions yet so we were talking and laughing and excited about our little one. After several hours at the hospital, and many laps around the maternity ward, the doctor decided I was not progressing fast enough and ordered some pitocin. I was not excited about this and my mother's pearls of wisdom helped me along. She said, "Honey, labor just hurts, whether it is fast or slow, it just hurts." At 3:44 pm McKayla Elizabeth Blackwood came into the world. Of course, like most babies she was crying but as soon as Keith started talking to her she stopped crying and turned her head to look at him. It was beautiful. I can't say every moment of parenting since then has been that beautiful, but it sure has been rewarding and I am so pleased and proud of my little girl!
